The Business Plan That Always Works

In a recent post, I wrote about my realization that I wanted to create a real business, rather than just a collection of online debris that may produce ad clicks.

This then is the introduction to a series of posts based on Michael Gerber’s excellent book The E-Myth Revisited and the article The Business Plan That Always Works from E-Myth.com [you'll need to create a free account and then look in the articles section].

What I’ve done is to go through the 7 steps in The Business Plan That Always Works and quote and/or paraphrase in combination with my own thoughts. Then I’ve combined this with my own responses to the plan where ever possible.

These are the steps and sections:

  1. Heart Centered Business Planning vs. Head Centered Business Planning
  2. A Heart Centered Plan is Personal and Specific to the Person Who is Following it
  3. Stop Thinking
  4. The Declarative Statement
  5. Frames of Reference
  6. Who Am I and What Am I Willing to Work For?
  7. Business is About the Process – Not the Results

One thing to notice about this process is that it doesn’t have any details yet. The Business Plan That Always Works is completely generic. It is can be used to fill any business form. Picture framing, retail store or affiliate marketing they are all the same because these planning steps are about the entrapranuer, not the business. Think of The Business Plan That Always Works as the meta business plan.
