Old Fashioned Radio for the 21st Century
The internet is just so great. I wanted to introduce one example. Radio Paradise.
Bill Goldsmith has been programming & DJing progressive radio stations for a long time, but (as you might have noticed) there’s not much room for creative, eclectic, and diverse radio on the FM band these days.
So Bill [and his wife Rebecca] started their own internet, commercial free, radio station. I don’t know if they are getting rich [but I hope they are!], but it looks like they have there heads well above water.
Bill’s music blending talents are the cornerstone of the Radio Paradise brand. See the last 6 hours’ playlist here.
Each hour of music is carefully blended together to flow smoothly between different musical styles & genres – just like real DJs used to do on FM. We don’t use the computer-generated playlists or “carefully researched music libraries” that have sucked the soul out of FM radio – and we never just throw songs together at random the way many web stations do.
The business model is donation based. Radio Paradise listeners are a tight community. I’ve been there since the beginning and it is great to see how the station has evolved. I listen all day long and have not problem donating on a regular basis. Great music and a really cool business success story.
