Top 10 Reasons Why I’m Not Posting as Much Lately

by SMD

Top 10 reasons why I haven’t been writing as much lately…

  1. Record high temperatures for the past week in Edmonton. Lots of times I post on my lunch hour but when it’s t-shirt weather in late November, I can’t resist getting outside.
  2. Moving my sites to a new host – this is a biggy. One day last week I realized that my site’s reliability was so low that I had actually begun to expect it to be down when I dropped in. Then one day, I accidentally deleted some content from my database. No problem, I thought, I’ll just ask my host company to restore from their latest backup…I was told that they didn’t do backups and they didn’t promise them, but they may have them soon. Ouch! Great business attitude. BTW, I was able to grab all my lost content off of the MSN and Google search engine cached pages [this trick deserves a separate story]. I’m hoping our new home will be better than the last.
  3. I am working so much on the rest of my business which is doing quite well and, quite frankly, this site doesn’t make nearly as much money as my other sites so as my Grandma would say, “You’ve got to make hay while the sun shines.”
  4. I’m always torn trying to decide whether or not to write about what I do on my other sites. I’m totally stoked by it so it’s natural to share, but it is such a damn fine way to make money that I’m afraid if I write about it everyone will start to do it and the competition will get tougher. But since Yaro wrote a great article that pretty much nails the approach you can check it out on his site. He didn’t get all the secrets [thank god!], but enough to get someone rolling quite nicely.
  5. Too busy deleting comment spam. Ugh, I guess it’s a sign of success of some sort, but I’ve been trying to write some new security code to try and cut down the spam in my comments.
  6. Being busy at my day job cuts into my time for being an entrepreneur. When the pressure starts to rise at work, I’m less able to give it my usual 5 or 6 hours a night.
  7. Bloggers block [problogger has a good series of tips going on this topic right now], for me it’s more of a time thing, once I get behind then it’s more like writer’s constipation, I know I don’t have time to catch up, so I just procrastinate and the flow of story ideas begin to decay.
  8. I’m waiting until I’m a member of the ‘idle rich’ class [ETA 2-3 years] so I can blog like a fiend and really talk from the voice of experience rather than the voice of a wannabee.
  9. I haven’t learned to lighten up yet and just post quick thoughts rather than thinking that every post I make has to somehow change the world.
  10. I’m buried in the endless paperwork involved in setting up our 2 corporations…who’s idea was it to get legit and incorporate? Just changing over my AdSense account from a personal to a business account type has taken many many hours and has cost about $100 a day in lower $/click: more on that soon.

Thanks for sticking around.

Yaro, it’s more the little things, that can make a big difference, that come from paying attention and doing the same thing for 30 hours a week for 6 months. I’ll let you know when my e-book comes out :)
